Gates of Hell by meredetriment Gates of Hell by meredetriment
this is the first lithograph i have ever done, i hope to do lots more. it took me about 9 hours to draw the image (including sit-around time when i am wondering what to draw on it next since i freehanded it) and even more time to print and process the stone. what fun! :D

Lithoraph you said....a lot of work but the result is great !!!
It has an infernal madness that stuck my imagination...drives me back in time when I first saw Morbid Angel's "Altars of Madness" cover artwork.

wow...such a unique take on the gates of hell!
so beautifully detailed yet equally menacing at the same time.
if the trees in hell are that scary just think about the demon squirrels that live in them!

thanks man :) i made this by drawing the image with lithograph crayons(which have special grease powers that change the surphace of the stone) on a rectangluar slab of Bavarian limestone(the guy who discovered this could be done lived in Bavaria i believe). the stone's surface is sensitve to grease, so ya can't put yr hands on it... and then i had to put acid mixed in gum arabic on it(there's more than that to do, but i wont go into it, it'll take all day XD) which etches the image into the stone. while printing, the stone has to be kept damp so when i roll on the ink, the ink sticks to the 'greasy' image where the water doesnt stick(the ink doesnt stick to the dampend-by-water parts;)) then i lay a sheet of paper over the inked up stone and roll it through the press. repeat however many times, 12 in this case *collapses*

You know Hell is a nice place during the winter time. But a pain in the ass to get in.

Well, this is absolutely amazing, I can quite honestly say you are one of the better artists here on DA... the way everything molds and twists together, and the entire concept as well as the technicality of it it amazing, I didnt even see the male and female bodies until the second look, and thats what I love and appreciate about it, its simply awe-inspiring, insta-fav. :D

On the plus side it looks amazing.
This quite simply scares the shit out of me. And this came out of what? A bad acid trip or something?
This i have to favourite just for the pure fact it looks like something you put a lot of effort over.
I would tell you to see a phychiatrist if you see things like this, problem is if you did i wouldn't get to see any more call lithographs like this :D
Well done. :+fav:

wow, thank you :)
i just started drawing it and it turned out like that, i didn't plan it. i'm not sure what inspired me... maybe from being fed up with trying to have good ideas to draw for lithographs :) so i just drew what i felt like at the moment
